Some time back, I wrote about why critical thinking is vital in the age of the Internet.
Critical thinking is a major intellectual and practical skill, particularly in the area of health science education (Rowles, Morgan, Burns, & Merchant, 2013).
This major intellectual and practical skill seems to be a skill that the majority of students coming into higher education and the workforce are not only lacking in function, but also in understanding what the concept is (Rowles et al., 2013; Choy & Cheah, 2009; Henderson Hurley & Hurley, 2013).
Critical thinking is not only important for success in school, it is crucial for the future of our society. It is our responsibility to send our children out into the world equipped with these skills.

ABRIC Education
To address these educational gaps and more, ABRIC Education has collaborated with Prepworks to bring the Key Life Skills curriculum to Malaysian students. Developed by Oxbridge and Ivy League alumni, this program is designed to focus on skills that students need to prepare for university. They will learn how to make sound judgments as well as to communicate logically, with clarity and originality. Students will be equipped with skills that enable them to become lifelong learners with an appreciation of different perspectives and insights from which to view human endeavors.
The Key Life Skills covers the following skills:
- Critical Thinking
- Critical Reading
- Critical Writing
- Leadership
- Public Speaking & Debating
The Key Life Skills program is unique because it is conducted by different coaches who specialize in different skills. The multi-skills format is great for busy students because it helps them to develop valuable skills that will help improve academic performance.

- Classes are held most Saturdays
- 9 to 10 years old – 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Summer Workshop
This summer, ABRIC Education will be offering a 2-day “taster” workshop for 9 to 12 years old. The workshop focuses on critical reading and writing with a goal to instill a deeper appreciation for what makes excellent English literature and astute literary criticism.
Language is the backbone of our society, and these skills are essential for our students to excel in many areas of life. Exercises will be very relevant to the style of English exams in school, and will set the foundation for your child to flourish. Careful tracking of progress and one-on-one feedback sessions will also ensure that your child is working at his or her own best capacity.
